The UAE High Council has elected Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as its President.
According to the UAE’s state-run news agency WAM, the rulers of the country’s seven states voted unanimously in favor of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at a meeting at Abu Dhabi’s Al-Musharraf Palace on Saturday.
It should be noted that the President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan passed away on Friday at the age of 73 years.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, tweeted after the vote: “We congratulate them and we swear allegiance to them, and our people swear allegiance to them.”
If Allah wills, the whole country will walk on the path of honor and respect under his guidance.
The ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, also congratulated the new president of the UAE and said that “Sheikh Mohammed had played an important role in the development of the UAE and will continue to do so.”
“We congratulate President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and pray to God Almighty to grant him success and prosperity.”

World leaders and diplomats are expected to visit Abu Dhabi in the coming days to mourn the death of the former president and meet with the new president.
It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. French President Emmanuel Michel arrives on Sunday.

It may be recalled that Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was buried in Al-Batin Cemetery in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
Funeral prayers were offered at the Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi, attended by Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed and members of the Al Nahyan family.
The Ministry of Presidential Affairs has declared 40 days of official mourning on the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed took over as the second President of the United Arab Emirates on November 2, 2004 and succeeded his father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan as the 16th ruler of Abu Dhabi.
He was born on September 7, 1948, in the city of Al Ain and was the eldest of his brothers.
UAE loses righteous son and leader
On the death of Sheikh Khalifa, the then Crown Prince and current President of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, lamented that “the UAE has lost a good son and leader.”
He added that “the UAE has lost a good son and a trusted leader who is on a journey of empowerment.”
According to Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, “Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s deeds, wisdom, generosity and many other qualities are spread to all corners of the country. My brother Khalifa bin Zayed, may Allah have mercy on you and give you a place in Paradise.
